The Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for an associate or advanced assistant professor of applied linguistics or second language acquisition to begin September 1, 2025.

About the College:
Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments and one program, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has approximately 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.
About the Department/School/Area:
The Applied Linguistics Master of Arts program in the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures is a vibrant program with graduate students from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. CMLL consists of a dynamic and diverse community from the fields of American Sign Language, Applied Linguistics, Arabic, Classics (which includes Archaeology, Greek, and Latin), English as a Second Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
Required Qualifications:
1. Must hold a PhD in an area of applied linguistics or second language acquisition.
2. Have a consistent record of publication that would meet departmental requirements for tenure and promotion (i.e., 1.5 -2 articles/book chapters per year, in peer-
reviewed journals/series with a high impact factor).
3. Exhibit a record of teaching excellence, demonstrated via teaching evaluations, peer teaching observations, and evidence of innovative course development.
4. Demonstrate the capacity and/or specific plans to attract externally sponsored research, as shown in CV or as addressed in cover letter.
5. Demonstrate a dedication to service, engagement, and outreach, evidenced by involvement with program building, student mentoring, university committees, regional or national organizations, etc., as shown in CV.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in higher education administration.
2. Specialty in language technology, particularly artificial intelligence.
3. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.

2.Must have a demonstrated excellence in research with an established scholarly record commensurate with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. Applications from advanced Associate Professors will be considered.
3.Must have administrative experience that will form a basis for leading a vibrant, multi-program department.
4.Must have a demonstrated record and strong commitment to teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
1.Proven capacity or specific plans to advocate for and develop financial support at the institutional level and to attract both external and internal funding.
2.Administrative experience that includes financial/budgetary management.
3.Demonstrated commitment to fostering research and other collaborations both within the department and among external community constituencies, including but not limited to cultural events and study abroad programs.
