Job Description:
Fairfield University is a co-educational, comprehensive Jesuit university with a 200-acre campus located along the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, CT. The University is comprised of approximately 5,400 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students pursuing degrees within five schools: The College of Arts and Sciences, The Charles F. Dolan School of Business, The School of Engineering, The Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, and School of Education and Human Development. As an expression of our Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity, Fairfield embraces a liberal humanistic approach to education, encouraging critical thinking, cultivating free and open inquiry, and fostering ethical and religious values.
Job Description:
The Biology Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Anatomy/Physiology beginning Fall 2025 pending budget approval. Applicants with interests in any area related to Physiology or Anatomy are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose research program focuses on vertebrate/human topics, at the tissue level or higher. Laboratory based research programs are preferred, but field based research will also be considered. Particular areas of research interest include morphology, neurobiology, reproductive biology, and human disease. The candidate must be able to actively incorporate undergraduate students into their research program. Teaching responsibilities may include participation in our team-taught General Biology sequence, an upper level human anatomy course, an upper division course in the candidate’s area of expertise, and courses for non-science majors as part of our Magis core curriculum. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per semester. The candidate will also be expected to be active in service to the department, University, and professional communities.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field by August 2025, have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and the potential to develop an active and sustainable research program with undergraduate research students. The ideal candidate will have post-doctoral experience, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, evidence of peer-reviewed scholarly accomplishments, and an understanding and commitment to educating undergraduate students in the liberal arts tradition, a hallmark of Jesuit education. Candidates are encouraged to discuss how they will promote an equitable, diverse, and inclusive scientific community at Fairfield University in their application materials.
Additional Information:
The Biology department consists of 22 full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Biology department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, regular departmental extra-curricular events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences. The salary and benefits for the position are highly competitive for the New England/Northeast region of the USA.
Fairfield University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, committed to excellence through diversity, and, in this spirit, particularly welcomes applications from women, persons of color, veterans, Jesuits, and members of historically underrepresented groups.
