The University of North Florida (UNF) seeks a Dean to lead its Coggin College of Business to new levels of accomplishment.
The University of North Florida is optimally positioned for success in higher education's current environment. Established in 1972, UNF has grown significantly in size and prominence, particularly in recent years, with nearly 17,000 students, 584 full-time faculty members and over 1,200 staff. The University is home to six colleges and routinely ranks high in quality and value on national lists published by U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, The Princeton Review, Wall Street Journal and other national publications. UNF holds the prestigious Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement and is committed to preparing the whole student. Engaged classroom settings and individualized attention are important hallmarks of the student experience, as is substantive engagement with impactful community projects directed by passionate and committed faculty and staff.
Located in Jacksonville, FL, within an active and supportive business community and serving a large regional population, UNF enjoys strong support from the State University System of Florida, which is based on a unique performance funding model. Under the leadership of President Moez Limayem (himself a former Business Dean), UNF is on the move and in 2022, UNF was classified as a Carnegie Classified R2 – High Research Activity institution. Building off this achievement, the institution has a new 2023-2028 strategic plan that aspires to considerably greater national and international acclaim while optimizing its relevance within the regional business environment and the University's historical commitment to student success. Coggin's new Dean will thus inherit an AACSB-accredited institution with very significant upside.
Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Karen Patterson, the next Dean will work in a collaborative fashion to lead the execution of the College's current strategic plan, "Our Path to the Future". Additionally, the new Dean will be responsible for student success efforts that reflect a global perspective and a commitment to inter- and multidisciplinary approaches, connecting with the Jacksonville business community, AACSB accreditation, enrollment, academic program planning, assessment of curriculum and instruction, recruitment and evaluation of faculty and staff, professional development and research support, and sound budgeting and fiscal management.
To this end, candidates with histories of working successfully within the context of shared governance and a collective bargaining agreement are strongly preferred. The Dean will possess an earned terminal degree in business or related fields and a strong record of accomplishment in teaching, research and service that merits appointment as a full professor. Candidates possessing significant administrative experience will be advantaged. Above all, the Dean will be committed to student success and will possess the necessary skills and personal attributes to inspire the entire Coggin community to aspire to even greater impact on the College's students and its community.
The University of North Florida and its Coggin College of Business offer its new Dean a fertile environment for success. It seeks a leader to inspire the Coggin community to greatness.
