Position Summary

Concordia University Wisconsin Ann Arbor (CUWAA) invites applications for the position of Dean of the Batterman School of Business. The successful candidate will lead the School of Business and oversee undergraduate and graduate academic programs offered at the university's residential campus in Mequon, WI, with international partners and online. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Academics and is located in Mequon, WI.

As executive leader of the School of Business, the dean will articulate a clear academic vision appropriate to a Lutheran liberal arts university with numerous professional academic programs. He or she will confidently demonstrate and communicate the value of a business education grounded in Christian faith and Lutheran identity to internal and external constituents. The Dean should possess a proven record of strategic leadership and program management including oversight of operational budgets and personnel. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates shall be prepared to develop robust external relationships through fundraising, community outreach and service to benefit the School.

The position requires an individual deeply committed to the mission and values of Concordia University as an institution of Lutheran higher education. Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with faculty and other academic entities, develop, promote and communicate an innovative and creative vision for all business academic programs consistent with Concordia's mission
  • Lead strategic planning and innovation for the school to include both academic programs and educational delivery methods that meet the needs of 21st century students
  • Foster strong interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration among programs and departments within the school and with other academic units of the university
  • Represent the School of Business on the university's Academic Council, Administrative Council and other internal entities as well as outside the university
  • Oversee and supervise department chairs and program directors within the school to ensure all operational and academic functions of the school are fulfilled
  • Call and preside over meetings of the school, and lead faculty members with respect to curricular needs, library holdings, instructional improvement, curriculum and program assessment and improvement, and other academic matters pertaining to the school
  • Lead the school's successful transition to AACSB accreditation
  • Provide leadership and guidance in managing academic programs including program development and growth, program assessment and improvement, and program discontinuance as required to ensure a healthy program portfolio aligned with student demand and university mission
  • Support the fundraising efforts of Concordia's Advancement Department by seeking, identifying and securing external funding sources and friends of business programs
  • Preside over a School of Business advisory council to promote and support academic programs and initiatives that benefit the liberal arts and advance the university's mission
  • Provide exemplary leadership in the intersection of faith and learning across all academic disciplines
  • Oversee centers and institutes linked to the School of Business to ensure mission congruence and fiscal stability
  • Oversee business programs delivered internationally; some international travel will be expected
  • All other duties as directed

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent professional communication skills, both written and interpersonal
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, acting both collaboratively and decisively
  • Ability and willingness to travel between Concordia's two residential campuses (in Mequon, WI and Ann Arbor, MI), as well as internationally to develop and oversee Concordia's overseas academic business programs
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Christian faith and Concordia University mission; all Concordia faculty are members of Christian congregations and connect faith to their disciplines in the classroom.
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Education & Experience

  • Earned doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the School of Business
  • Experience in college teaching appropriate for a senior faculty position
  • Demonstrated leadership in higher education, including knowledge of and experience with strategic planning, organizational leadership, relationship-building with diverse constituent groups, budget and personnel management, accreditation, and grant writing
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed academic scholarship and research
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and improvement, as well as learning outcomes and academic program assessment
  • Experience with online and blended/virtual learning modalities and interprofessional education
  • Experience with international business education (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt (salary) faculty position. The starting wage is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia University benefit options include, but are not limited to the following:
