About the Opportunity:
The Graduate School of Engineering (GSE) is seeking an Assistant Director to join its expanding Student Services team.

Responsibilities:
Our student population is diverse and expanding rapidly. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Graduate Education, the position combines direct supervision of professional academic advisors, leading and directing assigned student services functions, and collaboration with program leadership with regard to student needs and course related matters.

Direct Supervision: The Assistant Director provides direct supervision and mentorship to Boston based professional academic advisors within the student services team and dotted line supervision to regional campus advisors. The Assistant Director provides support and guidance to advisors for their assigned graduate students in the areas of orientation, course registration, academic monitoring, program interruption, documentation of curriculum exceptions, and graduation clearance. The Assistant Director provides feedback and recommendations to the Associate Dean on the performance of all direct reports.

Leading and directing assigned student services functions: The Assistant Director independently plans, implements, communicates, and is accountable for student services functions, such as course registration, graduation clearance, and academic probation and dismissal. Assistant Director also provides leadership and support for the College's accelerated Master's program in collaboration with the undergraduate academic advisors. The Assistant Director serves as a SEVIS contact for the high percentage of international graduate students in the program(s) s/he supports. While not responsible for visa compliance, the SEVIS contacts in the college partner with the Office of Global Studies to advise students on compliance requirements. The Assistant Director will advise and provide support on escalated student cases with the Assoc. Dean for Graduate Education. The Assistant Director is expected to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and bring appropriate issues to the attention of the Associate Dean and Associate Director of Student Services, as needed.

Collaboration with departments & other units: The Assistant Director collaborates with department program directors on academic University processes, such as the annual curriculum update and semesterly course registration discrepancies. S/he is expected to collaborate with others involved with COE Graduate Education including cooperative education coordinators, graduate program directors, faculty, and admissions personnel to meet student needs and to identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:
Master's Degree required. At least 4 - 6 years of related administrative experience. Experience in academic setting highly desired. - Demonstrated advising abilities. - Expertise in policies and processes related to graduate student academic affairs, including registration, progression, academic standing, and graduation clearance. - Ability to establish, refine and be accountable for meeting goals in a dynamic work environment - Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proactive, organized, and attentive to detail. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Excellent oral and written communication skills and team-building skills. - Ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. - Ability to set goals, multitask and manage time effectively. - Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. - Ability to manage a high volume of students effectively and efficiently. - Demonstrated ability to lead a team process with accountability - Demonstrates professional approach to problem-solving, and leadership skills - Some direct supervisory experience required - can include supervision of student personnel- - Computer literacy requirements include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment including MS Word, Excel (intermediate level), and a good understanding of databases. - Experience working with international student populations highly desired.
