About the Opportunity:
The Academic Advisor, Special Cohorts, provides personalized academic advising from the point of admission through graduation and beyond for learners who enter Northeastern' s College of Professional Studies (CPS) through academic partnerships, and works closely with other departments in the university. Reporting into the CPS Academic Advising & Learner Success unit, s/he is responsible for an assigned caseload of learners to facilitate the development and delivery of academic and professional development plans & services that integrate with intentional curriculum and career planning and exploration to ensure each learner's academic success and career aspirations. S/he will engage with students for academic advising, to support the unique needs of cohort students including Global Classroom through one-on-one engagement, and other forms of outreach to enhance the student experience. S/he will also maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student, including tracking of student academic progress and outcomes. S/he will connect with students using multiple modalities and in ways tailored to their preferences and convenience for development, communication, professional engagement, and academic success.

Responsibilities:
70% - Academic and Student Support Provide overall guidance to learners on their academic goals and career paths. Interpret and explain academic policies and procedures to students; advise on College curricular matters, student profiles, Career Actions Plans, and other academic and personal issues as they arise; act as liaison between student and faculty; troubleshoot for student grievances; and monitor academic progress through graduation as follows: Actively manage a caseload of continuing learners from point of admission through academic program completion. Monitor student progress through adherence to the established communication and contact plans; plan learner curriculum, perform degree audits, enroll learners, and track, record, and report on learner engagements. Engage in effective and established practices for academic advising and learner services. Advocate for students while enforcing institutional policies and regulations. Communicate regularly with students through various mediums to provide guidance and support in areas related to academics, career, and experiential education. Respond to student inquiries from point of contact to resolution; follow up on referral and provide closure. Process official paperwork related to students' academic study in a timely manner, including changes of major, transfer credit, course substitution, petitions to amend degree requirements and petitions to graduate. Liaise between the learner and the University community working collegially with other offices and departments to ensure learner service functions are performed in an efficient and consistent manner. Make appropriate referrals to on campus and off campus services as appropriate to learner needs. Track students who become academically inactive; reach out to these students to encourage resumption of studies. Support and provide coverage for the ongoing day and evening operations for local and/or the regional campuses. Communicate with representative from academic partners and Admissions Department to find out who incoming students are and create Degree Audits for accepted students. Participate in new student orientation each semester for incoming special cohort students. Complete paperwork needed for international students to remain compliant. This position also works closely with other departments across the University, such as the Registrar, Student Financial Services, Enrollment Services, the Office of Global Services, and college partners.

15% - Assessment and Data. Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student meeting including tracking of student academic progress and outcomes using the College/CRM system. Assess, collect and report student data as they pertain to student persistence, retention and satisfaction. Participate in unit or College assessment efforts, including the development of benchmarks for progress. Maintain consistency and compliance within ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other state, federal, University and College of Professional Studies guidelines.

15% - Program development. Design and deliver programs to support the unique needs of students in caseload, including workshops, webinars, etc. that enhance and add value to the student experience in areas related to student academic and career success. Participate in and contribute to the content, delivery and support of new student orientation. Stay abreast of research and effective practices in academic advising and student affairs to propose ideas to better serve students. Participate as an active member of professional associations related to academic advising and career services. Strong presentation skills required. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Master's degree required, in advising, counseling or a related field; 2-4 years' experience; strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication (both verbal and written) are necessary. Computer skills and experience in working with databases desirable. Ability to learn and effectively use College and University- level computer systems in day-to-day advising is necessary. Ability to work well with a variety of personalities and to juggle many activities simultaneously, take initiative, follow through with projects and to work as an integral member of a team is necessary. The successful candidate should be/have: Experience in working with international students in an academic advising, academic support, and /or career development context. Interest in conducting research on effective practices in direct service to students. Strong technological skills and experience using various software, programs, and tools; Experience with Salesforce (Customer Relation Management system) and Banner mainframe database system a plus. Proficiency in the use Microsoft Office Suite tools products; Flexible in work assignments and work hours to include some evenings and weekend; some travel required.
