Job Details
Title: Admission Reader
Position Purpose:
The Admission Reader supports the Office of Admission in identifying, attracting and enrolling an academically talented and diverse student body through the review of student applications to Bates College and analyzing qualifications of prospective students using established College admissions standards.
Job Duties:
- Works in a team to carefully review application files in accordance with established College admission standards from mid-November thru February, with the bulk of the work during January and February.
- Attends periodic reader training sessions and/or other meetings as needed.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in admissions or higher education is preferred.
- Prior experience in reading and evaluating applications for highly-selective schools is desired.
- Prior experience in reading and evaluating international applications is desired.
- Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
- Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Impeccable organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude.
- Ability to analyze data to assess admission trends.
- Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer applications (e.g., Slate, Banner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
- Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and other non-traditional schedules.
