Position Summary

The department of chemistry at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in chemistry at the rank of assistant professor, beginning August, 2025. Applicants with chemistry teaching experience and a desire to utilize their biochemical and bioanalytical knowledge and skills in teaching introductory chemistry, mentoring undergraduates, and conducting research should apply. Primary duties will involve teaching undergraduates in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and upper-level electives in biochemistry, along with developing new laboratory and research experiences for students in the broad area of biochemistry. The new hire will join our team of full-time faculty with diverse research interests involving collaboration with students and local industry partners. The chemistry department at York College offers four BS degrees in Biochemistry, Cannabis chemistry, Chemistry, and Forensic chemistry, and is in the process of initial approval by the ACS to award certified BS degrees in chemistry. The department has a culture of supporting student-initiated research and is home to over $2M in analytical instrumentation for student and faculty use, a sample of which includes 500 MHz NMR, ICP-MS, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF MS, XRF, FT-IR (and microscope), Raman, RT-PCR, and LC-MS.

Essential Functions
  • Teach undergraduate chemistry lectures and labs during the scheduled fall and spring semesters in a face-to-face environment
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students in the chemistry department (biochemistry, cannabis chemistry, chemistry, forensic chemistry majors)
  • Mentor undergraduate research
  • Actively serve the chemistry department and York College
  • Maintain a collegial and cooperative approach to teaching, service, and research
Experience and Education Required

An earned Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience in teaching undergraduates, a broad knowledge of chemistry, and a record of publication in the discipline.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Preference will be given to those familiar and comfortable working with and maintaining analytical instrumentation as it applies to teaching or research. The ideal candidate will possess an ability to communicate effectively, organize collaborative laboratory work, and exhibit excellent management and interpersonal skills.
