Colgate is a vibrant, highly selective liberal arts university of 3,200 students situated in central New York state. The Department of Computer Science is evolving in exciting ways, with several recent hires and a move to a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance collaboration. Our department is engaged in cross-disciplinary initiatives like Arts, Creativity, and Innovation and Mind, Brain, and Behavior . Our students are self-driven, engaged, and have broad interests. Our faculty are committed to excellence in both teaching and research.

We are excited to recruit new faculty eager to contribute to our community. We encourage candidates from all areas of computer science to apply. We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about research, with a record of scholarly work and a promising trajectory of future research at a primarily undergraduate institution. In addition, successful applicants are expected to demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. We seek candidates with an interest and ability to teach required courses in our curriculum and elective courses in computer science. Applicants that complement and broaden the department program—through teaching, research, or service—are preferred.

The successful candidate will be a productive scholar and teach courses in their area(s) of expertise, departmental courses, and the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum . Teaching responsibilities for each semester typically consist of two course sections plus one or two accompanying labs. Faculty members have access to state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research and funding for travel, research supplies, and academic-year and summer student researchers. Further information about the department can be found on our website .

Review of applications will begin October 21, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. A cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, diversity and inclusion statement, and the names of three reference letter writers must be submitted through Interfolio . Candidates should include in their teaching statement courses they are interested in teaching. At least one of the references should be able to speak to the candidate’s promise as a teacher. Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities and to make all students feel welcome, respected, and fully included in the classroom. Candidates should describe in the diversity and inclusion statement how their approach to teaching, scholarship and/or mentorship might help us achieve this goal.
