Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University invites applications to fill a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025 or earlier. Candidates with extensive practice and expertise in mechanical engineering may be considered for the rank of Senior Lecturer or Professor of Practice. The position will be appointed with a one-year contract, renewable annually, and with the promotion to Senior Lecturer after 5 years of excellent performance. Primary duties include teaching up to four courses, or equivalent, per semester and actively contributing to the department's undergraduate teaching mission.
In addition, part-time positions may be available. The Department currently has 31 tenure-track/tenured faculty and 8 full-time non-tenure-track faculty. The Department is housed in modern research and education facilities with an enrollment of approximately 900 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public, land-grant institution currently ranked among the top 30 national public universities by U.S. News and World Report and as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains between Atlanta, GA, and Charlotte, NC in upstate South Carolina.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. or master's degree with at least 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The candidate must have a passion for teaching and communication skills to motivate over 50 students per class in a dynamic, interactive environment with an ability to effectively engage students to learn in a remote environment using virtual technology platforms.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in mechanical engineering on the main campus of the University and possibly some teaching at innovation campuses, such as CU-ICAR in Greenville, SC. Highly desirable candidates will have expertise and interest in teaching fundamental mechanical engineering courses with an emphasis in the broad subject areas of thermodynamics, fluids, mechanics, design, manufacturing, or dynamic systems and controls. Preferred qualifications include experience in aerospace, robotics, power generation, HVAC, or other industry experience and a demonstrated record in engineering pedagogy.
