A position with Landmark College is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of promising college students and to help us change how the public thinks about education. A fully accredited, not-for-profit institution, Landmark College offers bachelor’s and associate degrees in liberal studies, studio arts, psychology, business, life science and computer science.

Landmark College seeks an experienced professional to serve as the Director of Human Resources, the chief personnel officer for the College reporting to the President.

The Director of Human Resources is the liaison between College employees and College senior management and provides supportive and confidential opportunities for employees to question and comment and make suggestions regarding personnel policies and procedures while balancing the interests of employees and the resources of Landmark College.  An effective Director of Human Resources is instrumental in maintaining a positive working environment to retain existing employees while attracting qualified and diverse candidates to fill vacant and new positions at Landmark College.  The Director of Human Resources has a key responsibility to advance Landmark College’s distinctive mission, core values, programs and services as outlined in the current Strategic Plan.

A Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to human resources management and at least eight years of increasingly responsible experience is required. SHRM Certification highly desired. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills.  The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, maintain perspective, effectively recruit, train and manage personnel and to provide strong leadership within general and specific areas of responsibility is critical.  The position requires excellent analytical, communication, organization and supervisory skills, consistently sound judgement and an ability to work successfully under pressure.  Computer literacy is necessary.  Experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs and Paychex payroll and benefits administration software is preferred.  The Director of Human Resources must demonstrate initiative, energy, and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.  The successful candidate must pass all necessary background checks required of any Landmark College employee working directly with our students and employees.  Experience working in higher education is preferred.

Landmark College

While many colleges offer special programs for students with learning disabilities (LD) and other learning challenges, Landmark College is one of the only accredited colleges in the United States designed exclusively for students who learn differently, including students with learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism.

Landmark College’s mission is to transform the way students learn, educators teach, and the public thinks about education. We provide highly accessible approaches to learning that empower individuals who learn differently to exceed their aspirations and to achieve their greatest potential. Through the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, the College aims to extend its mission across the nation and throughout the world.

Students at Landmark College get far more personal, directed assistance than at traditional colleges that often offer a grab bag of accommodations for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or autism. Students at Landmark College receive individualized attention from classroom instructors—in courses tailored to meet their educational needs. This is evidenced by our exceptionally low student/faculty ratio of 6:1. Our experienced advisors meet frequently with students to review and guide their progress. In addition to advising, a wide array of other academic support is integral to a Landmark College education, including executive function coachingeducational technology support, and the services of our centers for academic support. All instructors are trained professional educators, not teaching assistants or peer tutors.

Landmark College is located in Putney, Vermont, in the southeastern part of the state. The campus is two and a half hours from Boston and four hours from New York. Southern Vermont also has a great deal to offer. Within half an hour of campus, faculty, staff and students can find amenities more often associated with an urban environment, including movie theaters, shops, restaurants, live music, art, and theater. Members of the campus community who love the outdoors will find world-class skiing, snowboarding, hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking just minutes from campus.

Our Office of Human Resources strives to ensure that we are an employer of choice, attracting and retaining uniquely talented individuals able to advance the College’s position as the college of choice for students who learn differently. We are committed to a philosophy that recognizes each person as an individual, worthy of respect, trust, dignity and fair treatment, and we apply these tenets to serve, support, and value all members of our community.
