Job Summary

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder is currently seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position. The department and college are particularly interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Who We Are

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is one of Colorado’s flagship public institutions and among the most research-active public universities in the country. The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), the second largest school or college on the CU Boulder campus, is ranked as a top 10 public graduate engineering program and a top 20 undergraduate engineering program, and has multiple specialty programs ranked in the top 20. The department has a proud tradition of academic excellence. We have two robust ABET-accredited undergraduate degree programs, where the emphasis is on interactive learning, computer applications, a wide variety of interdisciplinary options, and undergraduate research. We have created thousands of screencasts and interactive simulations – available on LearnChemE.com – that are accessed millions of times annually.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; develop an externally funded research program in their technical area that synergizes with others in the University of Colorado system (the search is open with respect to area); contribute professional leadership and service to the department, the college, and their professional community; and cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.
  • The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service.

  • Applicants must have earned a research doctorate or equivalent degree in chemical engineering, biological engineering, bioengineering, or a related field; and have their degree conferred before starting a tenure-track faculty appointment.
  • Candidates being considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet University standards and unit criteria for tenure and promotion to the designated rank. These criteria generally include having an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, and a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.

Applicants should describe their ideas for interdisciplinary collaboration, their experience and interests in teaching undergraduates and graduates, and their plans for inspiring diverse students. (2-3 pages)
  5. Contributions to Diversity and Inclusion Statement: In this statement, describe your experience and demonstrated ability to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within your research, teaching, and/or service to the benefit of student learning, campus culture, and society. Please provide details on your track record, calibrated to your career stage, that outlines your research, teaching, or leadership/service activities to advance DEI and the role you played in these efforts. In addition, describe your specific plans for advancing DEI as a potential faculty member in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering within the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. (1-2 pages)
