The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Health, Education and Professional Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position in Public Health beginning August 2025.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Department of Health and Human Performance, invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure eligible faculty position, requiring a balance of research, teaching, and service. The faculty member will be expected to maintain a record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and pursue external grant funding. The faculty will advise Master of Public Health (MPH) students and teach graduate and undergraduate courses (as needed). Course instruction will include a variety of modalities including online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face in accordance with program and departmental needs. The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with the MPH Program Director in contributing to curriculum development and planning of the MPH program based on the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation standards. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff within the program, department, and college, the department encourages its faculty to engage in interdisciplinary community-based partnerships and provide service to the institution, professional organizations, and the community.

Information about the Program

The Master of Public Health program has two concentrations: a concentration in Chronic Disease Prevention and Control and a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics . Both MPH concentrations are accredited by CEPH. The Nutrition and Dietetics concentration is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The MPH program is a campus-based program with courses offered in both online and hybrid modalities. The MPH program is designed to develop leaders in public health who are qualified to address health-related needs at individual and community levels to improve health outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:
  • An earned doctoral degree in a health-rel ated field (individuals who are all but dissertation [ABD] will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded prior to start date).
  • Evidence of conducting and disseminating health-related research such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the university.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus among students, faculty, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • An earned Master of Public Health (MPH) .
  • Specialization in an area of chronic disease prevention and control, such as substance use disorders, mental health, aging, HIV/AIDS, or noncommunicable diseases and chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, asthma) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in rural health or health policy.
  • College or university-level teaching experience, with preference at the graduate-level, in public health.
  • Work experience in a health-related field.
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional modalities, including online and hybrid instruction.
