Job Summary/Basic Functions
Organizational Objective:
The Division of Global Leadership and Talent Development seeks to provide specialized support and development opportunities to all students at Virginia State University. The implementation of high impact practices to include living-learning communities, study abroad, and cohort experiences are vehicles to allow students to excel and realize more of their full potential upon graduation.
Job Duties:
Ensures VSU compliance with regulations of the Department of Homeland Security regarding monitoring and reporting on the international student and scholar populations. Supports international students in their academic, cross-cultural and personal needs to ensure their success at the University. Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in international student or scholar advising or programming
Demonstrated experience working with international students and scholars or in a related international
or cross-cultural environment.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in the creation and production of immigration documents.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal rules regulations related to issuance of F and J visas and relevant current trends within the
international education field.
Additional Considerations:
A master's degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of cross-cultural adjustment issues.
