Position Duties
The Department of Sociology at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor to begin July 2025. Tenure-track faculty teach three courses per semester and actively engage in research in the area of their scholarly interest. In addition to teaching and research expectations, tenure-track faculty have the opportunity to serve on the committees at both departmental and university levels and mentor undergraduate students. Funds are available to support research-related expenses and professional travel and may include research start-up costs.
We seek to hire an individual who has research interests in inequality, health, and the social and physical environment, and who makes use of qualitative or quantitative methodologies to explore access to resources, equity of outcomes, and/or activism pertaining to health/medicine. Successful applicants will also have the desire to teach sociological theory, introductory sociology, and an introductory course in society and policy as an introduction to environmental studies. While the department is open to any focus, special consideration will be given to applicants who can extend the department’s global focus or focus on the ways in which race, gender, and class intersect to impact health outcomes at a systemic level. Required Qualifications:
earned doctorate no later than July 2025, with subject matter expertise; (2) the ability to teach courses in health and the social and physical environment, social theory, introductory sociology; (3) prior teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness; (4) the ability to create a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom, and to uphold the departmental commitment to racial justice; (5) strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including employment of high impact teaching practices; (6) ability to contribute to the Jesuit educational mission of the department and university.

Department Description:
The Department of Sociology offers a major and minor in sociology and contributes to several interdisciplinary programs including global studies, forensics, peace and justice studies, gender and sexuality studies. The Sociology Department is committed to racial justice, which extends to its approach to instruction, and to student writing and high impact teaching practices, including service learning, simulations and problem solving.
Compensation Range:
$74,500.00 - $77,000.00
