Job Summary

The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE) at Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, and service activities, including 1) teaching courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels; 2) mentoring and advising undergraduate students on senior design projects and master’s students on thesis research; 3) developing and maintaining a nationally recognized research program and securing extramural funding to support their research initiatives; and 4) providing service to Department/College/University/professional community. To qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor rank candidates must demonstrate a record of scholarship, funded research, and experience as an instructor and student mentor .

Education

A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field is required. The degree must be earned by August 12, 2025.

School

The School of Engineering at PNW comprises three departments: Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE). Closely affiliated with the school are two distinguished and award-winning research centers, the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) and the Purdue Water Institute (PWI).

Department

The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE) at PNW provides high-quality education and research opportunities in the fields of mechanical and civil engineering. The MCE department offers ABET-accredited undergraduate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, as well as a graduate master’s program in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering concentration.

Our engineering programs are nationally recognized, currently ranked #58 among non-PhD granting institutions, reflecting our commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including cutting-edge equipment, advanced laboratories, and design studio. These resources support a range of educational and research activities, providing students with hands-on experience and opportunities to engage in innovative projects.

The design studio is home to several student clubs that support senior design projects and graduate student research. These clubs offer students practical experience and foster collaboration on real-world engineering challenges.

In addition to our robust internal resources, the MCE department maintains strong collaborations with national laboratories and industry partners. These partnerships enhance our research capabilities and provide students with valuable opportunities for internships, cooperative education, and collaborative projects.
