Job Description:

The Department of Physics and Technology at Berry College seeks an open-rank tenure-track or professor of practice in Creative Technologies. The Creative Technologies program is seeking applicants who work at the interface of design and creation, able to equip students to take concepts from idea to design, development, and at-scale production. We invite entrepreneurial applicants from fields of engineering or industrial design who can bring both depth and breadth to this dynamic academic program.

Born of the maker movement, Creative Technologies is a distinctive program that has grown rapidly since its launch in 2014. It blends design, prototyping, computer coding, and entrepreneurship to help students become problem solvers through novel design and development projects. The program's 7,000 sq. ft. makerspace (HackBerry Lab) includes technologies such as CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters. Shops for working in wood, metal, plastics, electronics/PCBs, and fabric are also available. Learn more at http://www.berry.edu/majors/creativetechnologies/ and www.hackberrylab.com .

The Creative Technologies program desires excellent teachers who enjoy working with students on collaborative hands-on projects. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in basic, intermediate, and advanced prototyping, physical computing, and mentoring senior capstone projects. We seek a faculty member who enjoys applying theory by creating things (making); and who has broad skills and interests. The successful applicant should be committed to excellence in teaching, service, publishable scholarship, and mentoring students in a residential college environment. A Berry College faculty member should also value a culture of belonging as described here: https://www.berry.edu/belonging/ .

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer engineering, product design engineering, human-computer interaction, industrial design, or closely related engineering or design fields. Candidates who are currently ABD should earn their Ph.D. by the date of employment. Candidates with a Master's degree will be considered if they demonstrate exceptional prior teaching or industrial experience.
