Compensation: The starting annual base salary range for this position is $78,000-$88,000.

Position Summary and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Dining Services, the Campus Executive Chef provides direct, day-to-day operational and administrative oversight for culinary production at all dining locations throughout campus. The Executive Chef assists with providing leadership and vision in the kitchen, with a particular emphasis on the daily operation and ongoing training and development of dining culinary staff. This position is a member of a management team expected to develop a successful plan for meeting or exceeding student expectations of an on-campus food service. Vassar College, in partnership with Bon Appetit, focuses on local and sustainable ingredients, healthy food options and cooking from scratch.
Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with the Bon Appetit team in regard to menus by recommending improvements to offerings. Participate in weekly menu and production meetings.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Dining Services Sous Chefs to effectively manage over 120 full and part time dining services unionized staff.
  • Provide strategic vision, planning, and implementation for a student-centered campus dining program by seeking opportunities for growth and improvement in operations, stay informed on current trends in the food service industry, and incorporate new and innovative ideas. Design and implement a comprehensive on-going training program for employees.
  • Strategically plan for fiscally sound operations, excellent customer service, and effective staff development.
  • Directly responsible for quality improvement, sanitation, safety measures and all kitchen-related activities.
  • Oversee catering and rollout of special events and culinary promotions needs and ensure production is scheduled to meet the needs. Responsible for College catering needs.
  • Design and provide training and leadership in understanding food allergies and diverse dietary requirements for religious, ADA, and nutritional needs.


Qualifications
Required
  • 5 years of culinary management experience.
  • High volume kitchen management experience.
  • Must have the ability to work with others and to take and give direction.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using technology to support operations including budgetary functions and accounting.
  • Availability and flexibility to work evening and weekend hours year-round to support campus dining.


Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with a culinary focus
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience working with unionized staff
  • ServSafe Certification
