The Department of German at New York University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in German to begin September 1, 2025, pending budgetary and administrative approval.

Clinical Assistant Professor appointments are for three years, subject to renewal based upon a reappointment review and positive recommendation. Subsequent reappointments can be made for up to three years each and include the possibility of promotion to Clinical Associate Professor, and, later, to Clinical Full Professor. Clinical Assistant Professors teach a 3-3 course load. The department seeks to hire a scholar ready to direct the German language program. As Language Program Director (teaching release: one course/academic year), the successful candidate will train and mentor graduate-student instructors, oversee and coordinate the language program, serve a diverse community of students, and organize extracurricular activities to attract students to the study of German.

Minimum requirements: M.A. in German language/literature/culture/second language acquisition/applied linguistics at the time of appointment (Ph.D. preferred), native or near-native fluency in German and English, teaching experience of German as a second/foreign language (college level) at different levels, broad-ranging expertise in current methodologies and related research, as well as expertise in the integration of technology in the classroom. Research profile in foreign language pedagogy or teaching-oriented perspectives on literature and culture a plus.
