Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of 9-month, non-tenure track Lecturer of College Success in the First-Year Experience (FYE) program, to begin Fall 2025. To be eligible, applicants must be able to teach first-year courses in a discipline within the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Business, particularly in biology, English composition, or psychology.
The Lecturer of College Success will join the First-Year Experience program and will play a key role integrating high-quality instruction and a supportive student learning experience in critical gateway courses.
Upon successful hire, all full-time faculty are required to live and work in the state of Nevada.
About the First Year Experience at Nevada State:
The Lecturer of College Success will work with colleagues to teach a College Success course that integrates best practices to unite learning communities, peer mentoring and other non-cognitive support with excellent instruction. This position will also teach introductory courses in a specific discipline.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach one or more sections per semester of our College Success course. This course for first-year students covers fundamental college perspectives and skills, as well as NS resources.
- Teach introductory (100- or 200- level) classes in specific discipline to make up the remainder of the 12-credit load each fall and spring semester (for a total of 24 credits per 9-month academic year).
- Collaborate with the RISE Peer Mentor program to enhance student success, including working with an embedded peer mentor in the College Success course.
- Collaborate with other FYE Lecturers to design and implement improvements to the First-Year Experience program.
- Serve on departmental and college-wide committees and complete other forms of service.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a relevant field closely related to one of the teaching areas within the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Business.
- Ability to teach the College Success course and an introductory course(s) in one of the disciplines in the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Business, particularly in biology, English composition, or psychology (Review our course list for 100- or 200-level introductory courses).
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, particularly with a largely first-generation and/or diverse student population.
- Willingness to contribute to student success initiatives.
- Commitment to working in a collegial environment to support inclusion and equity for our diverse student body.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach introductory courses in biology, English composition, or psychology.
- Knowledge of evidence-based teaching and academic support practices that promote inclusion and success for undergraduate students, particularly those from historically under-represented and first-generation populations.
- Prior success contributing to a successful First-Year Experience program at the college or university level.
Rank, Salary & Benefits:
9-month. Non-tenure track. Budgeted salary for this position is $46,577. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
