Are you passionate about empowering youth and fostering community growth? Join us at South Dakota State University ( SDSU ) Extension as a 4-H Program Manager – Regional Youth Educator, where you support county operations in the central region and lead state-level programs to meet the needs of young people in the State of South Dakota. This central region position can be located at one of our SDSU Extension Regional sites in Pierre, Aberdeen or Lemmon, South Dakota. This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

SDSU Extension 4‑H is a community that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects to build social, life, workforce, and leadership skills in a positive environment where they receive guidance from caring adult mentors. Kids experience 4‑H through in-school and after-school programs, clubs, workshops, and camps. We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Within an assigned 4-H region of counties, provide 4-H program and policy supervision as well as direct education in support of outreach and older youth retention initiatives.
  • Develop and support state-wide 4-H programs.
  • Serve as a general team member of the South Dakota 4-H program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Child or Youth Development, Education, Sociology, Community Development, Human Development, or other related fields with documented relevant youth development coursework and/or work experience prior to beginning employment;
  • At least three years volunteer or professional experience in youth development or education;
  • Effective written communication skills;
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Child or Youth Development, Education, Sociology, Community Development, or Human Development;
  • At least one year of experience in education or government administration; and
  • SDSU Extension or South Dakota government relations experience.
