The School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development ( SECHD ) invites applications for an Assistant Director of Counseling and Human Resource Development at the main campus in Brookings, South Dakota. Working with the Director of the School of ECHD, the successful candidate will lead program coordination of the six Counseling specialization tracks at South Dakota State University ( SDSU ) and serve as the CACREP liaison. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, open rank faculty position that is full-time and benefit-eligible The Assistant Director will be instrumental in maintaining accreditation standards with CACREP and the state, connecting and supporting the Counseling program at the Rapid City campus location, teaching graduate students, responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit, and maintaining an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations. Key administrative requirements for this position are to provide input and make recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the budget, assist with identifying and securing temporary faculty, review program faculty workloads, oversee the admissions process, and other duties as assigned to the position. This position requires in-person teaching in Brookings, South Dakota.

The Assistant Director will:
- Lead the counseling program to maintain accreditation standards with CACREP and meet state licensure and certification standards.
- Serve as the liaison for the School of ECHD to CACREP in matters related to accreditation, including submission of reports.
- Coordinate curriculum reviews (course offerings, plans of study and curriculum changes)
- Actively participate in recruitment, hiring, and retention of Core Faculty and temporary (adjunct) faculty for the program, including the Clinical Experiences Coordinator.
- Support development and maintenance of curricular quality through the assessment plan to assure on-going accreditation.
- Under the direction of the Director of SECHD, engage in budget planning and effectively manage the operational budget.
- Commitment to serving and teaching a heterogeneous student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
- Mentor graduate teaching assistants and temporary faculty.
- Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research to support the mission and goals of the Counseling and Human Resource Development ( CHRD ) program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director or Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience – minimum salary for Assistant Professor rank is $85,000. Release time will be allocated to serve as the Program Coordinator for the Counseling and Human Resource Development academic unit. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university’s guidelines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Earned doctorate from a CACREP -accredited Counselor Education program by June 2025 or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full-time in a CACREP accredited counseling program prior to the 2012-2013 school year.
- Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.
- Knowledge of CACREP standards.
- Leadership ability.
- Evidence of ability to teach in university settings (on-campus and online).
- Potential for scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining external funding to support research activity.
- Clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.
- Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience with CACREP accreditation self-study reports and/or site visits.
- Experience and/or training in Play Therapy.
- Experience working within rural and frontier communities.
