Job Description

The University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) College of Education invites qualified professionals to apply for one of two full- time, benefits-eligible, tenure track faculty positions in Counselor Education. The Counseling Program, housed in the College of Education, offers CACREP-accredited master’s degrees in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling as well as a CACREP-accredited PhD program in counselor education. The position requires teaching, supervising practica/internships, conducting research, publishing, writing grants, participating in service activities, advising students, and having a strong commitment to cultural diversity and social justice. The position is a nine-month academic year contract beginning August 2025. UMSL is an equal opportunity institution. Responsibilities:

• Teach graduate courses in counseling and counselor education each fall and spring, commensurate with the faculty member ’ s expertise (summer teaching is available).
• Supervise students completing Practicum or Internships.
• Academically advise and support masters and doctoral Counseling students.
• Maintain an impactful research agenda.
• Demonstrate a willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues to support the mission of the institution and the Counseling Program.
• Demonstrate an ability to secure external grant funding.
• Demonstrate/support the College ’ s dedication and commitment to culturally-responsive practices and social justice.
• Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive culture in the program and college.
• Serve on committees at the university and college level, as well as in the community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• A doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program (ABDs will be considered with completion by start date)
• Experience as a counselor
• Documented evidence of teaching excellence and contribution to student development
• Evidence of an established research agenda
• Active membership in counseling related professional organizations at local, regional, and national levels

Preferred Qualifications:

• Specialization in career counseling
• Specialization in school counseling
• Expertise with quantitative research methods
• Licensure eligible in Missouri

Counseling Program in the College of Education

The Counseling Program is located within the College of Education, whose mission statement reads: “We advance educational knowledge and practice. We partner with communities. We promote diversity, equity, and excellence.” The Counseling Programs further this mission by preparing school counselors, clinical mental health counselors, and counselor educators to serve the mental health needs of culturally diverse individuals, groups, couples, and families. The Program’s outreach extends to schools, colleges and universities, community based organizations, business and industry, as well as independent practice.
