POSITION AVAILABILITY : The Department of Human Development and Family Studies ( HDFS ) in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Child and Adolescent Development position at the assistant or associate rank. The position will begin August 16, 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES : We are seeking applicants with expertise and a program of research in child and adolescent development in the context of parenting, family, and peer processes, including (for example) psychobiological responses to stress, resilience and health within vulnerable populations, socio-emotional and/or cultural contexts of development. We particularly seek applicants who can provide evidence of an established, active, and externally funded program of research. Applicants must be able to advance child and / or adolescent development research and practice to prepare students of diverse backgrounds for professional academic and applied careers. Successful candidates are expected to maintain a productive, externally funded program of research and produce scholarly publications. Responsibilities also include instruction, supervision and advising of students, and service assignments.

THE DEPARTMENT : The Department includes 34 faculty members (19 full-time, tenure track) and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in HDFS . The department also has a strong interest in hiring faculty who have demonstrated commitment to diversity through lived experience, teaching proficiencies, and/or research interests. The department administers the Center for Health Ecology and Equity Research, the Center for Children, Youth, and Families; the Marriage and Family Therapy Center; the Auburn University Early Learning Center; and the Harris Early Learning Center of Birmingham, AL. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in HDFS, child development, developmental psychology, or a closely related area at the time employment begins, a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and demonstrable potential for extramural funding. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

Desired Qualifications

Expertise in advanced quantitative or qualitative methods is desirable.
