MU TITLE: Assistant Editor
LOCATION: Within 30 minutes of Columbia, MO

The goal of the MU Extension Business & Community Program (MU Ext B&C) is to increase the prosperity of Missourians by helping businesses, workers, and communities thrive. Every person in MU Ext B&C:
- Provides educational activities and counseling that are designed to encourage people to transform their lives and their communities.
- Works alongside them to grow their businesses and change their communities.
- Uses data to tell the stories that help Missourians understand the economic and social challenges – and opportunities – that are impacting their communities, their businesses, and their world.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Content Development: Work with MU Ext B&C subject matter experts to create content for websites, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Social Media Management: Oversee and expand MU Ext B&C’s presence on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Digital Marketing: Support the creation and execution of digital marketing campaigns, including email marketing, and paid advertising.
- Content Strategy and Planning: Help develop and implement a content strategy that aligns with the Extension’s goals and strengthens its brand.
- Engagement: Travel regionally to events to conduct onsite interviews and capture photos and videos of activities.
- Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and local, state, and regional affirmative action plans.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as needed to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension B&C.
This position reports to MU Extension Business and Community Senior Program Coordinator.

Shift
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (20 hours per week)
Ability to travel and occasionally work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
Remote work is an option when projects do not require in-person presence and incumbent is meeting daily deliverables and quarterly goals.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Skillful writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, and digital marketing tools.
- Basic skills in graphic design and video editing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.
- Experience in community development, higher education, or business-focused organizations.
- Professional and friendly demeanor, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals.
Salary Range: $16.72 - $22.91 hourly
