Application Programmer Specialist

Reporting to the Associate Director of Application Development, the Application Programmer Specialist is responsible for the programming, testing, implementation, documentation, and support of new and existing web applications for Development and Alumni Relations units along with each application’s associated databases. Applicant should possess excellent written and oral communication skills for relation of both technical and non-technical information.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field.  Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
• At least one year of experience in creation and maintenance of websites and/or web applications
• Experience working with a Content Management System, such as WordPress
• Experience working with a database, such as MySQL or MS SQL
• Exposure to MVC framework, such as Laravel

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: 

• Experience with web programming languages such as PHP or .NET
• Experience working with a database such as MySQL or MS SQL
• Experience with GitLab or similar version control system
• HTML, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS, XML
• Ability to interact verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical audiences

Duties/Responsibilities

(70%) Develop, test, document, implement, and maintain supported applications (web and otherwise) in a manner that adheres to UGA and DAR policies

(10%) Work with clients directly to define and document requirements of new projects or changes to existing projects

(10%) Interact with clients and/or stakeholders to troubleshoot problems with existing applications supported by the unit

(5%) Research and explore advances in related technology and best practices related to the position and new or existing projects

(5%) Assist in training clients and/or stakeholders in use of developed products.

About the Office of Advancement IT:

The Application Support Group within the Office of Advancement IT specializes in application development and support for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations. The unit’s objective is to create, customize, modify, and support applications and reports that enhance the division’s ability to achieve its fundraising goals as well as to improve other processes that affect the organization.
