Job Summary/Basic Function
The Manager of Continuing Education and Community Development is responsible for managing continuing education, community education and lifelong learning courses and programming that fosters growth and innovation for Bay College. Works diligently to cultivate community relationships with business and community members within Dickinson County and surrounding areas. The manager will work closely with academic divisions, marketing, and workforce training to provide training programs that promote personal enrichment, lifelong learning, and professional development.
As a community connector, the Manager of Continuing Education and Community Development is dedicated to providing a high-level of customer service to community partners and will assist in tracking, coordination, and implementation of related programs for both campuses. This position requires a strong, self-starter approach with the ability to work independently and an ability to adapt to constant development of new innovative projects. Due to the nature of the role, the individual must be comfortable working with executive-level personnel within the community and consistently demonstrate strong business professionalism, including both verbal and written, while attending multi-faceted meetings both internal and external. Further responsibilities include working closely with internal departments to assist with college events aligned with community development in Dickinson County and surrounding areas.
This position is based at the Bay College Iron Mountain Campus, focusing on community development and engagement in Dickinson and Iron counties, while also supporting continuing education initiatives at both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field
- Three years of sales and/or marketing experience, with a proven track record of meeting established goals
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that result in trusting, long-term relationships
- Self-directed and able to independently manage time and projects in a face-paced environment; results driven
- Knowledge of account management and sales techniques
- Exceptional listening skills and the ability to gather, analyze and accurately interpret detailed information
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience working in local communities with strong connections to business local and community decision makers.

Work Schedule
Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flex-time to be available during evenings to periodically attend community events.

Travel requirement
Travel is an expectation of the role with a minimum of 50% travel required within Iron Mountain and surrounding counties. This position requires occasional travel for conferences, and periodic travel to the Escanaba Campus.

Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Act as a community ambassador for Bay College Iron Mountain Campus, building relationships with local businesses, organizations, and industry partners in Dickinson County and surrounding areas.
- Establish and maintain long-term community partnerships that align with Bay College’s Strategic Plan for growth and development.
- Educate the communities we serve about Continuing Education, Community Development and Lifelong Learning opportunities that emphasize the value and strength of building community partnerships and life-long learning.
- Participate actively in community organizations such as the Dickinson Area Economic Development Agency, Rotary, and Chamber of Commerce to support Bay College’s growth and outreach.
- Organize and lead community roundtable events that align with Bay College’s strategic goals and partnerships.
- Responsible for facilitating positive experiences for community members and continuing education students with each interaction.
Program Development, Delivery and Management
- Research, initiate, develop, deliver and track multiple continuing and community education training programs and lifelong learning; online, open-enrollment, and tasks simultaneously to meet established goals and metrics.
- Foster an environment supportive of growth and learning for individuals and organizations seeking continuing education, community education and lifelong learning programming.
- Administer Bay College’s Leadership Academy and Leadership Conference and/or similar future offerings to support community development.
- Manage the process for identifying and awarding Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for applicable courses, including certifications like SCECHs.
- Manage and forecast budgets related to continuing education, community development, and lifelong learning using data-driven approaches.
Instructor and Vendor Management
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate qualified instructors and trainers for continuing and community education programs.
- Communicate proactively with instructors/trainers to ensure they meet commitments and expectations.
- Provide ongoing support to instructors and trainers, collaborating with departments to meet client expectations.
- Administer partnerships with educational training vendors such as Ed2Go and others.
Operations and Logistics
- Coordinate logistics for scheduled trainings, programs, and seminars, including room scheduling, ordering materials, and preparing resources for instructors and students.
- Utilize the Event Management System for community engagement opportunities.
- Utilize the Learning Management System ( LMS ) to support continuing education and community development operations.
- Perform business office functions, including purchase orders, vouchers, invoices, timely payments, and electronic file management related to programs and courses.
Liaison and Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison with Bay College’s Workforce Training Division to connect corporate partners with customized training beyond the scope of continuing education and life-long learning.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Team to ensure accurate promotion and communication of courses, programs, and events.
Community and Student Support
- Manage and assess the effectiveness of the community sponsorship budget for Bay College Iron Mountain Campus.
- Support and embrace a diverse student population recognizing each student’s unique circumstances, needs, and motivations for pursuing higher education.
- Stay abreast of local changes in the community and industry needs and communicate to the Vice President of Workforce Innovation and Strategic Partnerships.
- Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.
