Community Engagement Coordinator
The University of Vermont is seeking applications for the position of Community Engagement Coordinator.
Responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive outreach strategy to connect queer and trans students to resources, build community and networks of support, and promote conditions at UVM where students with diverse LGBTQ+ identities can thrive.
Focus on educational initiatives designed to engage the campus community around issues of gender, sexuality, and other issues critical to the Prism Center’s work. Includes coordination of the Prism Center’s annual programs and promotion of wellness efforts for trans and queer students. Working collaboratively with students and campus partners, this position will create innovative educational and outreach opportunities for a more supportive and affirming campus.
Participate in the recruitment and shared supervision of student employees, volunteers, and interns; assists as needed with leadership and empowerment programming; and participate in any relevant campus and community efforts to represent the Prism Center and UVM. This position reports to the Director of the Prism Center.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one to two years related experience required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working to foster diversity, social justice, and equity for gender and sexual minorities required. Experience with community building, event planning, and in social media and digital communications is essential. Effective organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are critical. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in youth advocacy or with LGBTQ+ college students and/or young adults, particularly underrepresented or marginalized voices within queer & trans communities. Familiarity with the basic principles of program assessment & evaluation. Supervisory experience.
