The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay State University (APSU) invites applications for the position of Director of the Psychological Science and Counseling Clinic (PSCC) and Clinical Assistant Professor position in the area of Counseling Psychology with a start date of August 1, 2025. This is a non-tenure track, 3 year renewable position, requiring summer work each year teaching a practicum section and supervising clinical services for additional compensation. PSCC is the in-house training clinic for the PsyD in Counseling Psychology program and the M.S. in Counseling program and serves as an outpatient mental healthcare center for the community. The Director directs and oversees clinic operations and helps plan, develop, and maintain a comprehensive psychological services center whose services are available on a sliding scale for the community. The person in this role is responsible for ensuring that the PSCC operates and practices in a manner conforming to the professional standards and ethics of the American Psychological Association and any other accrediting bodies and complies with all TN state and federal laws governing the delivery of health and mental health services, as well as ensure that all psychological services delivered to the public occur under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or other appropriately credentialed individual. The Director will also teach 2 clinically-based doctoral courses in each of fall and spring semesters.
This position serves our PsyD program in Counseling Psychology which launched Fall 2020. The program offers a generalist track as well as a concentration in Serving Military Personnel, Veterans, and their Families. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Directing the day-to-day operations of the PSCC training clinic and responsible for ensuring that the PSCC operates and practices in a manner conforming to the professional standards and ethics of the American Psychological Association and any other accrediting bodies and complies with all TN state and federal laws governing the delivery of health and mental health services, as well as ensure that all psychological services delivered to the public occur under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or other appropriately credentialed individual.
- Teaching, clinical supervision, advising, engagement and service in the program, department, university, and community.
- Clinical areas of expertise are open and experience working with military populations is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrate teaching effectiveness at the doctoral level.
- Demonstrate effectiveness in clinical supervision of assessment and therapy for a range of individuals and diagnoses
- Demonstrate effectiveness in directing a mental health clinic and upholding all state rules and regulations governing the practice of health service psychology and ethical guidelines.
- Experience with electronic medical records and maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Knowledge of theories, intervention, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment, and supervision in counseling psychology
- Program, University, and Community service and engagement.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Psy. D. in Counseling Psychology (preferred) or Clinical Psychology (acceptable) from an APA-accredited doctoral program
- Licensed or license-eligible in Tennessee,
- Demonstrated experience in providing clinical supervision,
- Relevant experience in a leadership, administrative, and/or core supervisory role,
- Ability to supervise clinical assessments for a range of individuals and diagnoses.
