The Stanford Graduate School of Business Library invites applications and nominations for the newly created position of Scholarly Publishing Manager. The Scholarly Publishing Manager provides two main services: 1) development and growth of the GSB’s scholarly digital content management system, and 2) supporting the growing research output and publishing needs of GSB scholars, along with Stanford’s Open Access program. Works closely with the web team, Collections Director, Systems Engineer, faculty, and staff.

The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day operations of the digital repository. On a tactical level, this means efficiently building and cataloging digital collections. A more strategic aspect includes establishing policies and procedures, and setting priorities in consultation with Library Leadership, collections specialists, IT specialists, and GSB and University partners. The role requires a deep understanding of digital content creation, content management systems, knowledge of metadata and digitization standards, rules and tools, as well as the ability to work with and define requirements for web developers and systems engineers.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Populate and manage the Research Hub’s digital content management system; leverage partnerships with IT in the library and IT across campus

  • Train and manage student workers to assist with digitization projects
  • Work closely with faculty to support their publication and digital archiving needs
  • Support the publication, knowledge dissemination, and preservation aspects of the Research Lifecycle
  • Coordinate GSB scholarly output and workflow, including cataloging and preservation
  • Collaborate with GSB and other university entities involved in research publication workflows (White Papers, Case Studies, Working Papers, etc.)
  • Support GSB participation in Open Access Policy, including ORCID support; partner with University Scholarly Publishing Initiatives and Stanford Digital Repository
  • Develop metrics to assess and improve research publication impact
  • Develop policies and propose plans for sustainable and inclusive scholarly publication services that support all aspects of the research lifecycle, from pre-publication to broad dissemination and archival preservation
  • Conceive and develop digital exhibitions, including selection of materials, design of exhibit, preparation of related publications, etc.
  • Collaborate with library, faculty, and staff to provide services to patrons
  • Participate in local, regional, and national initiatives or meetings related to research lifecycle management activities and services.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and five years of experience in a relevant academic setting or a combination of education and relevant experience, with evidence of capacity to work at a high level of responsibility. A postgraduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master’s degree in information science.
  • Experience with all aspects of digital repository management
  • Experience with scholarship repositories, scholarly impact metrics, content management systems, and knowledge of online publishing standards
  • Demonstrated bibliographic expertise
  • Ability to manage projects, develop policies or drive library initiatives across functional lines
  • Consistent display of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills
