Position Summary
The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Rhetoric and Composition to begin Fall of 2025. The successful candidate will serve as coordinator of our first-year writing seminar and partner with the chair to support writing pedagogy within our General Education curriculum.
The duties in this role include:
- Teaching 20 credit hours
- Coordinator of FY Writing
- Mentoring majors and FY students
- Mentor fellow faculty in the design and instruction of writing
- Remain current in the field and serve as leader in campus writing pedagogy
- Producing primary and secondary artifacts in alignment with departmental professional standards
- Participate in service to the department, including but not limited to: searches, student group advising, admissions days and outreach, curricular oversight and implementation
- Participate in college-wide service, including required meetings and events and major service roles
- A Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Rhetoric and Composition required. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. by time of appointment.
- Applicants must demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of students as well as ongoing scholarship in the field of rhetoric and composition.
Preferred qualifications (not required qualifications for the position):
- Candidates with secondary interests in one or more of the following are encouraged: digital rhetoric, professional or grant writing, and/or working with linguistically diverse populations.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and communities is highly desirable.

The salary range for this position: $65,000 – $75,000
