Duties & Responsibilities
Summary:
The Department of Psychology at VCU is accepting applications for two post-doctoral fellows to begin on a rolling basis following review of applications. Successful candidates for these two-year positions will have research and teaching foci that align with the interests of one or more of our departmental faculty and encompass building thriving communities, health equity, and/or the social determinants of health.
We have particular interest in postdocs who leverage and wish to deepen expertise in one or more of the following areas: (a) family, community, gender and cultural factors; (b) addiction and related brain science; (c) prevention and implementation science; (d) physiological and genetic factors, and (e) the promotion of positive youth development. We would also note interest in candidates who have work that includes leveraging technology (e.g., digital applications/interventions, Artificial Intelligence), and/or interests in Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR); (Youth Participatory Action Research (Y-PAR), mixed methods and qualitative research methods.
The postdocs will be mentored by faculty affiliated with one or more of our psychology doctoral programs (Clinical, Counseling, Developmental, Health, and Social) and contingent on research funding and associated commitments, would build their fellowship plan to include teaching at least one undergraduate or graduate course each semester. We intend to hire postdocs who would collaborate with up to 2 departmental faculty. Possible departmental faculty mentors include: Dave Chester , Vivian Dzokoto , Ann Haynos , Shawn Jones , Jared Keeley , Fantasy Lozada , Oswaldo Moreno , Michael Southam-Gerow , Cecelia Valrie , and Chelsea Williams .
Postdoctoral fellows and their primary mentor(s) will collaboratively develop research, teaching and professional development plans aligned with their professional goals. There would also be opportunities to leverage connections with a range of VCU and departmental centers and institutes including the Center for Cultural Experiences in Prevention , Clark Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development , Institute for Women’s Health, Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies , Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics , Center on Society and Health , and Center on Health Disparities .
Typical Duties
Fellows will have the opportunity to work with established researchers and their colleagues on scholarly activities that may include research design and study implementation, participant recruitment, data entry, database development, data analyses, literature reviews, IRB protocol development, compliance and maintenance, manuscript and grant writing, and dissemination of research at local and national conferences. Postdoctoral fellows and their primary mentor(s) will collaboratively develop research, teaching and professional development plans aligned with their professional goals. Postdoctoral training will include intentional opportunities for mentoring and professional development in both research and teaching.
