Job Details
The Eisenhower Institute seeks a dynamic, team player with a proven history of strong collaboration and program management and development. Candidates must exhibit exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail in managing student public policy programs, facilitating public and partner events, managing partner relationships and supporting executive staff in our Washington, D.C. office. This is a 12-month, full-time position reporting to the Executive Director. The Institute is a division of Gettysburg College, a highly selective, residential, undergraduate liberal arts institution in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The DC Program Manager plays a key role in the College’s strategic vision to expand student and public programming in the nation’s capital. The Institute’s mission is to connect aspiring young leaders with public policy professionals to tackle society’s most challenging issues. We are non-partisan, inspired by President Eisenhower’s “middle way” approach. We engage diverse people and ideas to find common ground and take action. We prepare students to become global citizens who lead with integrity and inspire the world to meaningful action.
Responsibilities include:
- Program Management: Oversee logistics for study trips, semester and yearlong seminars and fellowships in DC, and remotely for Expert in Residence seminars in Gettysburg. Collaborate with program leaders to develop topics, descriptions, schedules, projects, presentations and facilitate travel between Gettysburg and DC. Promote programs online and on campus in collaboration with Gettysburg staff. Design applications and conduct initial review. Primary point of contact and communication for students and speakers. Track and report expenses within budget.
- Student and Partner Experiences: Facilitate day and overnight trips to DC for Gettysburg-based student programs. Responsible for planning transportation, food, accommodations and activities. Schedule speakers and site visits recommended by program leaders. Facilitate student and professional meetings with partner organizations and institutions. Research and recommend opportunities for student visits.
- Public Event Planning: Work with Executive Director, partners, and/or program leaders to host speakers, panels, seminars, receptions, workshops, symposia, conferences, and/or other public events in Washington. Typically, one or two per semester. Responsible for all logistics including venues, food, A/V, invitations, and other details.
- Alumni and Partner Relations: With Executive Director, maintain communication with DC area alumni working in government and public policy. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with agencies, nonprofits, businesses, organizations and other partners. Schedule occasional meetings for alumni groups, campus offices, advisory groups and partner institutions. Maintain contacts for student internship opportunities.
- Executive Support: Primary assistant to Expert in Residence. Assist with scheduling, correspondence and administrative duties.
- Office Management: Oversee office intern. Primary contact for building management and vendors. Order and maintain supplies.
