The CyberMontana program has been established to serve as the state hub for cybersecurity education resources.
The Montana Cyber Range (MCR) is located at the University of Montana’s Center for Cybersecurity Workforce and Rural Policy. The Center serves as a cybersecurity education resource hub for the State of Montana. The MCR provides a platform for cybersecurity (1) practice and lab exercises, (2) competitions and challenges, (3) security operations center (SOC), and (4) applied research. It supports the training of Security Analysts SOC training by simulating real-world cyber incidents and allows SOC teams to practice incident response, refine their processes, and improve their coordination and communication during cyber events. The MCR provides a safe, controlled environment where participants can practice cybersecurity skills. It provides real-world networks and systems simulation, allowing users to interact with realistic scenarios and tools. The range provides a platform for students to gain hands-on experiences through practice labs and team environments. Learners can improve their ability to identify and respond to cyber threats effectively. It serves academic, workforce, and government entities in creating and testing tools, techniques, and strategies in a controlled setting. Researchers can study trends, conduct experiments, and analyze the effectiveness of various cybersecurity measures without risking real systems.
