Job Description:
Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Health Management (undergraduate) and Health Administration (graduate) programs in the College of Public Affairs at the University of Baltimore.
The School of Health and Human Services invites applications for an Assistant Professor faculty position (tenure-track) for its B.S. program in Health Management and M.S. program in Health Administration to begin in August 2025 (contingent on final budget approval).
The Health Management and Health Administration programs are seeking highly qualified applicants whose experience and/or scholarship complements the program's existing offerings. A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Health Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Health, or a closely related field is required. Candidates will be required to teach in both the undergraduate and graduate health programs. This position requires the ability to participate in in-person, hybrid, and/or online classroom instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including evenings and weekends. Although the scholarly specialization for this position is open, individuals who contribute expertise related to health management and administration, health policy and politics, health finance and economics, quality performance and improvement, and health information systems will be given special consideration. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and course development related to the above-mentioned areas will be viewed favorably. Experience with synchronous online teaching using Zoom and/or Teams will be given special preference, as will experience with asynchronous instruction using leading content management platforms. The University currently uses Canvas as its teaching platform. Successful candidates will be expected to teach six courses per academic year (3 per semester).

• HSMG 301 Introduction to Health Economics,
• HSMG 303 Health Finance,
• HSMG 370 Overview of Health Care Delivery System,
• HSMG 371 Principles of Health Care Management I,
• HSMG 372 Principles of Health Care Management II
• HSMG 373 Health Policy and Politics,
• HSMG 379 Health Information Systems, and
• HSMG 472 Introduction to Quality Performance and Improvement in Health Care.
Graduate courses include but are not limited to:
• HSMG 691 Health Planning and Program Evaluation,
• HSMG 695 Heath Care Management Information Systems,
• HSMG 699 Health Finance and Economics,
• HSMG 750 Health Care Delivery Systems, and
• HSMG 755 Quality Management and Performance Improvement for Health Administrators
Candidates with expertise in the above-mentioned areas are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have a record of scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of appointment and demonstrate capacity for quality university instruction and service to the profession and the university. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established undergraduate program in Health Management (certified by AUPHA) and graduate program in Health Administration. Experience with certification of undergraduate and graduate programs will be given special consideration.
Candidates with practical experience and/or certification or licensure in an allied health or human services field is preferred. The undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to educate students about the workings of the health care industry with the goal of assuming management level positions upon graduation. Students in the undergraduate program are non-traditional and most have backgrounds in health care. Graduate students also have health care backgrounds with many already performing at a management level.
The School of Health and Human Services has 9 full-time faculty with advanced degrees in health administration, management and clinical experience. The school is home to several award-wining faculty members who have received the University System of Maryland's highest faculty distinction, the USM Board of Regents Award, as well as President's Faculty Awards recipients and Fulbright Specialists.
