Position Description

The Department of Public Health at the University of Mississippi is seeking applications for an Associate Professor in Public Health. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor to begin as early as January 2025. Applicants should have expertise in epidemiology as the responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate public health courses in epidemiology or biostatistics. Applicants should demonstrate an engaged/ongoing research agenda with a strong record of and potential for additional extramurally funded research and/or community engagement grants, a record of peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals, research/scholarly achievement, and a record of excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students consistent with the rank of an Associate Professor. The public health programs are housed in the new Department of Public Health (est. 2024). We encourage individuals with an interest in working as part of a team to develop and grow new CEPH-accredited public health programs to apply.

The School of Applied Sciences, located on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, MS (https://olemiss.edu/), is an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,900 students, six academic departments including The Department of Public Health (DPH), three centers and an institute. The School currently serves 10 undergraduate, 10 masters and four doctoral programs ( https://sas.olemiss.edu/ ).

The Department of Public Health ( https://olemiss.edu/departments/applied-sciences/public-health/ is home to 5 faculty, 5 staff members, and over 200 students from around the world. Our public health undergraduate degree has two concentrations (health science and community health) and our MPH has two concentrations (epidemiology and community health). Additionally, we have a joint PharmD/MPH program with our School of Pharmacy.

Appointment: 9 Month

Assignment Type: Tenure Track

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in public health or a health-related field
• Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a health-related field
• Evidence of a strong public health research agenda with a history of securing competitive, extramural research funding

Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced experience in research methodology and data analysis
• History of developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant public health agencies and organizations
• Experience developing and teaching online and remote courses
