Title: Elevator Repair/Control Specialist

General Summary
Perform routine and complex preventative and corrective
maintenance and repair of equipment, fixtures, wiring and controls
associated with electric and hydraulic elevators, vertical platform
lifts (VPLs), and dumbwaiters.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect elevator control boards, switches, circuitry and relay
systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and
other testing equipment and devices to ensure the safe and proper
operation of all elevators, VPLs, and dumbwaiters.
Maintain, modify, calibrate, adjust, replace and repair printed
circuits boards, electronic relay components, controls, and other
mechanical and electronic equipment.
Diagnose malfunctions; lubricate, maintain, replace and repair
locks, gears, doors, fuses, coils, brakes, cables, motors,
bearings, condensers, contacts, defective wires, carbon brushes and
any other related components.
Schedule preventative maintenance for all elevators and related
equipment as outlined in the standard EMU preventative maintenance
work order.
Inspect, maintain, and repair indicator panels, safety features and
hydraulic pumps.
Perform all required safety tests in accordance with State of
Michigan regulations; and assist in conducting official
inspections.
Use hand and power tools.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and
specifications.
Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas and all tools,
vehicles and equipment used in the performance of duties.
Report any damage, malfunction, irregularities and/or potential
hazards in buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles or supplies to
supervisor.
Maintain records, logs and reports of materials, service and time
expended.
Operate motor vehicles.
Perform related Departmental duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic
arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high
school education, is necessary.
Possession of a current class A Department of Labor recognized
State of Michigan Elevator Repair Journeyperson's License is
necessary.
Completion of a department of labor recognized elevator
apprenticeship program is necessary.
Possession of a valid driver's license recognized by the State of
Michigan is necessary.
Three (3) years within the last five (5) years performing elevator
maintenance and repair work in the State of Michigan is
necessary.
The ability to perform physically active work of a heavy nature,
requiring frequent walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling,
and crouching activity to perform maintenance and repair of
equipment is necessary.
The ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and occasionally exert 100
pounds of force to move equipment and tool is necessary.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment,
occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade is
necessary.
The ability to erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts,
boom trucks, and similar devices is necessary.
Ability to meet Departmental standards of reasonable personal
hygiene is necessary.
