The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is Wisconsin’s second-largest university, with a unique dual mission of access and research to provide high-quality education for students from all backgrounds. UWM is one of 146 top research universities recognized as “R1” by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Accredited by the CSWE, the Social Work Department is housed in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare in the College of Community Engagement and Professions.
The Department seeks to hire two full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty positions, one at the rank of Assistant Professor and the other to be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties include advancing a robust program of research while maintaining a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship along with service to the department, university, profession, and community.
The typical teaching load is 4 courses per year (2 courses per semester). The anticipated start date for the 9-month appointments are August 25, 2025.
Qualified applicants must hold a PhD in social work or a related field. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if anticipated completion of the degree is on or before the start date of the position. Preference will be given to applicants who have an MSW degree and a demonstrated ability to produce significant research, successfully teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and collaborate across disciplines and with community partners.
The two positions are open to any area of specialization, although applicants with a mental health research focus are strongly encouraged to apply.
