GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Centers for Early Childhood Education Lead Teacher is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Plan, design, and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in a literacy-rich learning environment that is integrated across the content areas using culturally and linguistically responsive strategies to meet the needs of children 2.9 years through 5 years old
- Facilitate lessons and activities encouraging self-expression and understanding of concepts through child-centered, hands-on experiences founded in play
- Promote social-emotional learning and growth in all developmental areas
- Use selected assessment and screening tools to measure and illustrate the children's development and growth and share findings with parents
- Maintain appropriate positive classroom management to promote the learning and development of all children
- Establish and maintain communication with families
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Centers for Early Childhood Education Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Early childhood education pre-practicum and field study students, interns, and student employees
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach during scheduled hours as assigned to meet the staffing needs of the CECE
- Plan, write, and implement curriculum on a weekly basis
- Collaborate with other CECE staff to set-up the classroom with appropriate materials and supplies for the theme, lessons, and/or activities
- Establish parent communication with weekly newsletters, in a once-a-week call-in hour, and other means as appropriate
- Complete for all children developmental screenings, assessments using selected tools, and anecdotal notes to measure and illustrate the children's growth and development in all developmental areas
- Conduct parent-teacher conference at least twice per year
- Supervise early childhood education pre-practicum and field study students, interns, and student employees to develop and model appropriate classroom positive management techniques and instructional methodologies and strategies
- Participate in the performance review process required by Framingham State University (FSU), the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) collective bargaining unit, the Massachusetts Early Education and Care Department (EEC), and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
- Comply with EEC regulations and NAEYC practices to maintain state licensure and accreditation
- Participate in the NAEYC accreditation and annual review and EEC licensure processes
- Maintain the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of the CDL/ECC equipment and facilities
- Other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to attend to the physical requirements necessary to teach in preschool classroom and playground on a daily basis
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field
- Hold or have completed an approved program for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 2) teaching license
- Hold or willingness to work toward Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Preschool Teacher Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese are strongly encouraged to apply.
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Familiarity with diverse models and approaches to curriculum, including teaching those whose home language is not English
- Ability to interact well with children, families, and campus personnel
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant. The starting salary range is $50,000 - $55,000. Benefits include health, dental, retirement, tuition remission, and generous leave packages according to the APA bargaining unit.
This position is currently assigned to the Early Childhood Center, which is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. year-round. The regular work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday with availability to work a rotating schedule between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. There may be special evenings requiring attendance at night for various family events at the center each year.
Framingham State University conducts background records checks according to the Massachusetts Early Education and Care requirements, which include Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Department of Children and Families (DCF) checks relative to prior criminal convictions and pending cases, Sex Offender Registration Information (SORI) checks relative to prior sexual offenses committed as an adult or juvenile, and finger print checks on final candidates prior to an offer of employment for all positions. Framingham State University requires specific written authorization to conduct background checks.
