Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Career Management and Employer Engagement, under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Career Management and in collaboration with the Office of Career Management, Advancement, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the MBA for Professionals and MBA for Early Career, programs, is responsible for providing career development services for Atkinson School graduate and undergraduate students and graduate alumni. This position is responsible for career coaching and advising, designing and executing high quality career development programs and events, managing job and internship postings, developing and maintaining relationships with the employer community, and facilitating the management of student interns. While the successful candidate will be responsible for working with all Atkinson students they will need to be particularly focused on generating good career development outcomes for students in the MBA for Professionals program.
As a secondary function, this role will also support recruitment in the MBA for Professionals program by generating applicant inquiries through business outreach and partnership development, which includes participation in networking events, sponsorships, professional association meetings, and conferences.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Career Coaching and Advising - 30%
- Identifies students' needs based on submissions and surveys and
develops advising processes and tools. Coaches students to identify
their career goals, develop job search skills and a career plan,
and to engage in an active job search. Works closely with the
Assistant Dean of Career Management and the Office of Career
Management to develop annual goals and assure overall programmatic
alignment.
- Assists undergraduate and MBA students in determining areas and
careers of interest. Works with students to develop high-quality
application materials, as well interview skills and
etiquette.
- Provides individual interpretation of career interest
inventories and assessments. Coaches students on how to identify
and pursue their career interests.
- Reviews and provides feedback on student resumes, cover
letters, email communications, and LinkedIn profiles.
- Teaches students how to access third-party software and
programs, including Careerbeam, LinkedIn, the Compass and Career
Navigator.
- Assists students in identifying relevant informationals and
companies/organizations of interest. Coaches students on how to
approach and communicate with these employers of
interest.
- Conducts mock interviews and provides relevant feedback to
students.
- Follows up with students after informational meetings and
interviews to ascertain their progress and success, as well as
assist students in improving their performance.
- Collaborates with the Office of Career Management to develop
communication and engagement strategies to reach students who have
not yet engaged with that office.
- Connects students with alumni and professionals in their area
of interest.
- Advises students on elective courses and projects that best
support their career goals.
Program and Event Management - 20%
- Collaborates with multiple Atkinson and University partners to
deliver high-quality programs with an emphasis on student
engagement and employment.
- Assists the Assistant Dean of Career Management to develop
goals and an annual calendar of events. Events may include, but are
not limited to, Compass Week, MBA-P Orientation, Career Close-up
events, mentorship events, company Treks, Power Lunches, student
association events, and company/organization information
sessions.
- Plans and facilitates high-quality events and
programs.
- Engages internal stakeholders, students, alumni volunteers, and
employers to secure involvement in events.
- Manages and delegates tasks to graduate assistants (Peer Career
Advisors or “PCAs”), student professional association volunteers,
and other stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains budgets for programs and
events.
- Works with Atkinson's Director of Marketing Communication to
develop a marketing plan and/or communication plan for events and
programs.
- Solicits feedback from students and stakeholders to plan and
improve future events.
Career Navigator and Job and Internship Postings - 10%
- Actively pursues job postings from businesses, non-profits
organizations, and governmental agencies. Procures exclusive
postings when possible.
- Engages with employers to acquire new job postings, including
internships and full-time appointments.
- Communicates job/internship opening to students and
faculty.
- Collects resumes to develop and maintain a resume database as
needed.
- Facilitates on-campus interviews and company information
sessions as needed.
Business Outreach and Recruitment - 25%
- Visits current and past employers, as well as new/prospective
employers. Works annually with the Atkinson School Deans to develop
a targeted list of employers and set yearly employment goals.
Actively seeks referrals of prospective MBA candidates from
employers and community partners.
- Schedules and manages employer visits. Engages other Atkinson
School staff and offices (Admissions, Executive Development Center,
Advancement, etc.) as needed to maximize and enhance the value of
employer visits.
- Generates prospective student interest and inquiries through
on- and off-campus employer-engagement activities, including
informational presentations, one-on-one meetings, receptions,
business forums, employment and career fairs, company site visits,
and participation in business associations and
organizations.
- Manages and routinely updates records in Slate and Colleague,
Willamette University's student information systems.
- Pursues and negotiates preferred partnership agreements with
employers that support admission, employment, executive education,
and curriculum and program engagement.
- Serves as primary account executive for a select group of
employers; regularly communicates and engages with these
employers.
- Works closely with Admissions staff to ensure a high level of
service to prospective students.
Supervision of Student Interns - 10%
- Serves as faculty internship supervisor on an annual
basis.
- Conducts initial meetings with students to develop and
implement a position plan for the semester.
- Establishes communication with students' employers and meets
one-one-one with those employers during the semester.
- Provides exit interviews with students to provide clear
feedback on their deliverables and reviews their employers'
evaluations. Advises students on any relevant follow up.
Supervision of Graduate Assistants (PCAs) - 5%
- Assists in the hiring, training, and management of all Peer
Career Advisors.
- Manages PCAs' schedules and projects.
Interdepartmental
- Collaborates with admissions and recruitment, advancement,
career management, faculty and other administrators in Atkinson and
the College of Arts & Sciences to create positive learning
outcomes for students.
- Serves on Atkinson School and University committees as
needed.
- Researches and stays current on employment trends and other
career/employment related matters.
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree is required. An MBA or a Master's degree in
an equivalent field is preferred.
- An ideal candidate will have three years of experience in
career services, human resources, admissions, student services,
higher education administration, sales, or a related
field.
- Demonstrated performance in:
- Human relations and interpersonal communications;
- Demonstrating self-initiative and creativity;
- Functioning with the highest degree of autonomy;
- Time management and project management skills;
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening
communication skills;
- Working with multicultural and traditionally underrepresented
populations;
- Using good judgment and maintaining confidentiality;
- Advising or coaching individuals;
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as
experience with CRM databases;
- Maintaining budgets; and
- Documenting processes and procedures.
- Must possess a current driver's license valid in the state of
Oregon or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire and a
driving record insurable by the University's insurer;
- Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel when needed.
The Atkinson School has campuses in both Portland and Salem,
Oregon, and this position will maintain a regular presence at both
locations;
- General understanding of employment trends, opportunities, and
organizations relevant to MBA students;
- Ability to execute those physical activities required to
perform the essential functions, including driving to off-campus
destinations; and
- Successful clearance of a criminal conviction record
check.
Salary Range: $62,784
