One (1) ye ar-round position (full-time) vacancy, working 40 hours per week. Hours vary based on departmental needs.
Under the direction of the Director, Career, Employment & Transfer Center, the Manager of Student and Employer Relations strategically cultivates and strengthens workforce relations and communication between employers, students, alumni, and faculty to maximize student employment and experiential opportunities. Negotiates nature of the employer college relationship and appropriateness of services/referrals. Strategically constructs and coordinates targeted recruiting activities and manages the Employment Team which supports district-wide early career-exposure initiatives. Oversees the student employee and work-study program including the federal regulated Job Location and Development (JLD) grant, and the MATC Internship Directive to create large impacts on-campus and community work experiences that are consistent with best practices, curricular outcomes, and academic program guidelines and policies. Works collaboratively with academics to deliver the “Employment Success” workshop and the IOWA Grow Project to MATC students participating in an internship, field experience, or experiential learning activity. Represents MATC at community meetings and events including evening hours on a consistent basis.
Work also requires assessment, judgment, analysis, and decision-making and interpersonal skills according to established practices and procedures. Communication is continuous between the Director, division, industry partners, specialized agencies, and governmental regulatory bodies.

- Student Employee Program Management and Oversight:
Oversees and grows a high impact student employee program that
supports professional development through structured training and
guided reflection. Proactively develop and implement strategies
designed to increase internship and employment opportunities for
students and graduates including underserved populations.
- Employer Relations Management: Develops and maintains
employer relationships to expand the range of employer recruiting
activities. Networks and partners with Business Improvement
Districts, Workforce Development Agencies, Chambers of Commerce,
Employers, and Professional Associations. Conducts ongoing
assessment of employer relation's efforts and provide feedback as
to the effectiveness of such efforts.
- Recruitment and Orientation Oversight: Develops and
enforces policies for employer participation in recruiting program
regarding acceptable methods of employer outreach/marketing and
diversity recruiting efforts, adherence to office procedures and
deadlines, interviewing protocols, offer/accept lead times and
incentives, testing practices, ethical and professional conduct.
Surveys and assesses employer recruiting needs, quality of
recruiting services provided, and other employer related data
management in order to improve the recruiting program.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Maintains and analyzes
data related to student employment outcomes, employer engagement,
and program effectiveness. Prepares and presents reports on career
services activities, trends, and outcomes to college leadership.
Utilizes data to inform strategy and improves services for students
and employers.
- Research, Trends and Communications: Researches and
stays current with national, state and local hiring practices,
employment trends and other labor related issues. Manages the
design and delivery of communications and marketing material to
students and employers regarding employment activities. Organizes
and sets the annual employment calendar, including all deadlines
and processes.
- Fiscal and Budget Administration: Directs the federal
Job Location and Development Grant and create a sustainable network
for community work-study placements.
- Committee Participation and System Engagement :
Participates in cross-functional committees and organizes, reviews,
and debriefs meetings among stakeholders. Leads the
cross-functional advisory team for student employee oversight and
development including new employee orientation, supervisory
training, and student employee on-boarding.
- Cross Functional Relationships and Collaborative
Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work
relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators, campus
partners, outside agencies, employers, and the community.
- Leadership and Supervision: Develops and manages high
performing team highly skilled and motivated staff focused on the
delivery of quality and value-added services and allocates
cross-functional responsibilities and work processes.
Responsibilities include hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance
management, and progressive discipline as needed.
- Continuous Learning & Professional Development:
Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in
higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively
organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, training,
workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or
conferences to promote continuous learning.
- Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Career Services, or relevant field and three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in higher education, including two (2) years of staff supervision.
Preferred Education & Experience: Master’s degree in Higher Education, Career Services, or relevant field; Prefer five (5) years of experience of progressively responsible work experience in higher education, including more than two (2) years of staff supervision.

Delegation of Work: Regularly assigns work to subordinate(s).
Supervision Given: Supervises managerial, supervisory, and professional personnel. Provides recommendations on hiring new employees; on coaching and counseling; on training; and granting time off.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience managing comprehensive internship and student employee programs; job and internship development, relationship management, and team leadership.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in data collection and analysis, proposal development and grants management.

- Knowledge of effective principles of supervision and management. Demonstrate leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and staff and interact with all levels of management.
- Ability to use computer software and programs relevant to the position including the ability to utilize databases, student information systems and the Google Office Suite.

Start Date:
This position supports the Enrollment Management Department and is available to start immediately.
Hours:
Up to 40 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday
