The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of Structural Engineering and Mechanics. Applications for an appointment at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. Candidates with expertise in all areas of Structural Engineering and Mechanics are invited, with particular interest and emphasis on candidates with demonstrated experience in experimental techniques and structural mechanics, focused on advancing fundamental understanding of important structural phenomena, such as fatigue, damage, stability, and deterioration, among others. The ideal candidate should demonstrate both intellectual depth and breadth, as well as promise for high-quality research and a commitment to teaching excellence. Individuals with demonstrated abilities to collaborate across disciplines are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in civil or structural engineering or a closely related field at the start of the appointment. Candidates seeking the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong track record of success in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition, teach courses pertaining to structural design and engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and the profession. The preferred candidate should show the potential for excellence in these activities through journal publications, professional conference presentations, teaching courses, outreach, and related activities.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests that also reflect how contributions will advance Penn State's Commitment to Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity, up to three academic publications, and contact information for three references. For full consideration, applications should be received no later than November 15, 2021.
