The Department of Chemistry at Wofford College invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor of Chemistry position beginning in Fall 2025. A successful candidate will
hold a PhD in organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or medicinal chemistry and will
be able to teach lab-based courses in organic chemistry and biochemistry. As a department, we

EXPECTATIONS:
The Assistant Professor of Chemistry will be responsible for teaching Organic Chemistry,
courses in support of Wofford’s Biochemistry Concentration, and General Chemistry.
Candidates are also expected to be able to teach courses at an advanced level in organic
chemistry and biochemical-related topics. There are expectations for scholarly engagement
that furthers the education of undergraduates. The faculty will also mentor students in
independent research in support of the Department’s Biochemistry Concentration. The
research must be appropriate for undergraduate students at a small liberal arts college.
Wofford’s science faculty typically teach 12 contact hours during each of the Fall and Spring
terms. During the January Interim term, professors teach a variety of topics using experiential
teaching methods.
Wofford faculty are teacher-scholars with a high aptitude and interest in undergraduate
teaching and advising, community outreach, and a commitment to the liberal arts. Tenure
expectations are that a faculty demonstrates excellence in teaching in the classroom and
laboratory, continues scholarly development, and provides service to the College.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires the following:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, or closely related field
- Excellence in teaching lectures and laboratories in Organic Chemistry, courses in support of the Biochemistry Concentration, and General Chemistry
- Ability to collaborate in a team or group
- Commitment to inclusive teaching and advising in the context of a liberal arts college
- Successfully conduct research with undergraduates in bioorganic chemistry or biochemistry at Wofford College.
The following qualifications are desirable:
- Previous successful teaching experience
- Commitment to seeking external research funding
- Graduate coursework on teaching and/or additional pedagogical training through workshops or certifications
- Experience working with a diverse population in the broader campus community (students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff)
- An interest in and commitment to teaching in the College’s Interim program
