Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
- Knowledge of student development theories, challenges and mentoring of college students.
- Knowledge of factors and trends in higher education influencing recruitment and retention of students to deliver services that improve recruitment, retention, and degree completion.
- Knowledge of principals of assessment to evaluate and improve program processes and to assess the student success initiatives.
- Knowledge of best practices in high impact services and trends impacting student populations.
- Knowledge of university and TSUS system academic policies and procedures.
- Master’s degree.
- Three or more years of experience in higher education in student support/student success programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, assessment, and practices used to foster student learning.
Responsible for advising and promoting activities and providing leadership opportunities for Texas
State students and the campus community.
Job Duties
- In order to meet our enrollment and retention goals each retention specialist will manage a cohort of students, with the identified retention outcomes.
- Facilitate and implement a holistic intervention plan.
- Work with academic advisors, housing residential life, and other student services units to ensure students are receiving applicable academic and social interventions.
- Review Navigate TXST Early Alert Reports and Student Hand Raises and suggest recommended solutions.
- Coordinate and implement special projects aligned with University’s compelling priorities;
- Facilitate processes with cohort groups to walk them through the university’s Bobcats Bounce Back academic recovery process.
- Create connections with students during the pre-enrollment period to include, but not limited to engagement via the New Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration Program.
- Serve a part of the planning and implementation committee for Welcome Week.
- Maintain accurate records and data tracking mechanism of students in cohort.
- Develop and implement a robust communication plan to facilitate outreach with student cohort.
- Assess institutional data and make recommendations for retention planning and implementation.
- Participate on University’s sub-committee(s) and ad hoc committee(s) when required.
- Participate in student success and enrollment management programs during evenings and weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.
