Assistant Director - Career Services

About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Career Services will report to an Associate Director for Career Services, in the Employer Engagement and Career Design Department, and will provide career coaching, program management and support for students, learners and alumni, primarily on the Boston Campus, but throughout the global network. They will provide support and coordination for programs, resources, and services in the Northeastern University ecosystem that address the intersection of career and identity to support the professional development and career trajectory of marginalized learner populations (including students of color, first generation and low income, LGBTQA+, International, students with disabilities and other underrepresented intersections of identity across all Northeastern campuses. This is a hybrid position.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Coaches learners including undergraduate, graduate and Doctoral students as well as alumni individually and in groups to design their career goals including identifying career interests, skills, personality and values, choosing a major, researching career paths
  • Facilitates learners' assessments to aid decision-making including StrengthsFinder, Strengths Profile, SkillScan, Strong, among other assessment tools differentiating approaches to meet diverse students' needs including those with unique abilities and international, non-traditional, first generation, and LGBQT+ communities
  • Assists students and alumni with their job search process, (cover letters, networking, resumes, advanced interviewing and salary negotiations) and employment opportunities for employment or entrance into graduate school (identifying appropriate schools, editing application essays).
  • Collaborates and builds partnerships with graduate academic faculty/advisers, career services teams and other relevant stakeholders in the global network, and other campus partners to design targeted, experiential, and competency-based programming and share trends and labor market information through university classes and seminars.
  • Conceptualize, design and implement, comprehensive, innovative career education programs for graduate in All colleges that aligns with growing graduate student population career needs and interests, both on the ground and with technology
  • Serve as a liaison to a college, partnering with co-op and academic advising teams, faculty and student organizations to deliver value-added programs, resource and services.
  • Serve on department, division, and university committees. Department committees could include data and assessment, marketing, technology, training and development and curriculum.
  • Represent the University at professional meetings and conferences. Serve on professional association committees.
  • Assist with department activities and events such as networking events, Career Fairs and orientations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree, in career development, higher education or demonstrably relevant field is required and relevant industry experience is preferred.
  • One-three years of career advising experience. Demonstrated knowledge of current labor trends and local, regional and national job searching strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated skill in presenting / teaching.
  • Experience working with and affirming diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment. Highly adaptable and flexible.
  • Excellent organizational, event and program management skills, including detail-oriented capacity for building efficient systems and operations.
  • Strong technology skills including webinar delivery.
  • Capacity to work one evening per week and an occasional weekend as needed.
