The Air Force Institute of Technology is seeking a creative and innovative colleague who can bring the Institute to the next level of excellence in achieving its vision to be a leader in defense-focused education, research, and consultation.

The Learning Engineer advises faculty on appropriate modalities and tools for course delivery, including facilitating learning communities, promoting technology-enhanced learning, and encouraging sharing of insights between faculty.  This position works with AFIT’s schools and directorates to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of services through internal working groups and external partnerships.  The Learning Engineer also facilitates institutional adoption of new educational technologies, advocating for resources and working within Air Force and higher headquarters information technology constraints.  The incumbent develops and presents workshops on pedagogy, scholarship of teaching and learning, and educational technology for faculty and staff.  The Learning Engineer also instructs on learning theories and instructional design practices to optimize learning in various class formats.  In addition, this position researches learning principles and technologies, as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning, to recommend policy and procedure changes and selection decisions between learning technologies.

AFIT is a federal institution located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH.  The Institute provides defense-focused graduate education primarily for the U.S. Air and Space Forces and the Department of Defense. Qualifications:  Applicants must be US citizens. Qualified candidates will have a Master’s degree or higher, and need to possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters.  Qualified candidates will also have a minimum of three years’ employment at an accredited college or university, implementing educational technologies or innovative teaching approaches.  An earned Master’s or doctoral degree in learning engineering, educational technology, or related fields is desired.  Demonstrated experience using multiple educational technology tools to support teaching and learning in virtual and in-person environments is desired, as is experience developing and delivering workshops for faculty or staff on learning engineering or educational technology topics.  Also, strong networking skills and a track record of engagement with various stakeholders internal and external to an institution to build partnerships and collaborative initiatives is desired, as well as demonstrated experience inspiring diverse campus constituents to adopt relevant best practices.  In addition, demonstrated experience applying educational technologies, instructional design, and assessment strategies to improve student learning outcomes is desired.  Furthermore, demonstrated experience authoring reports communicating best practices in areas of expertise, assessments of student learning outcomes, or research results is desired.  Proficiency in preparing purchase requests specifying technical requirements and cost estimates and active involvement in relevant professional societies are also desired.
