General Schedule

Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm at UCO's main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Position Overview

Perform general maintenance and repair duties including light carpentry, basic electrical, HVAC, grounds maintenance, arranging furniture and partitions, and waste/recycling management. Assist employees with internal moves. Performs setups in order to accommodate the needs of customers while remaining in compliance with all University policies and procedures. Maintain waste/recycling receptacles. May work with outside contractors.

Job Duties
  • Performs general maintenance duties for residence halls, dining facilities and apartment buildings.
  • Performs up-keep of equipment including preventative maintenance duties and repair.
  • Performs tile setting, drywall, painting, locks and hardware repairs.
  • Performs general maintenance and repair to cabinet doors and drawers, interior and exterior doors.
  • Utilizes a basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems to determine and properly communicate scope of repairs needed.
  • Performs routine plumbing maintenance.
  • Moves furniture and other items for the residence halls, apartments and related facilities as needed.
  • Performs general repairs to furniture, appliances and other property of the residence halls, dining facilities and apartments.
  • This is an essential position and may be called on to work in the event of campus weather closure.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Requires general education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, depending upon project needs. Good base knowledge of all phases of maintenance and repair and the tools and techniques utilized for various projects. Knowledge of general carpentry, electrical and plumbing repair work. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work in areas with fumes or airborne particles and toxic and/or caustic chemicals, in and around moving mechanical parts of equipment. Sufficient dexterity and coordination to operate equipment common to the trade, especially scissor lifts. Reads, understands manuals and instructions printed in English and documents legibly in same. Good oral and written communications are needed to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position. Ability to kneel bend, stand, walk and work overhead for long periods of time. Ability to lift large bulky items that weigh up to 50 pounds from floor and carry to a distance of 200 feet. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds up/down 30 stairs. Ability to work and climb in high places using a ladder.

  • Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly
  • Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally
  • Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally
  • Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision
  • Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Pass PFT (pulmonary function test
