  • Understanding of fiscal budgets and budget management, including purchasing systems, inventory control systems, and purchasing processes.

  • Functional knowledge of computer systems, networks, software, and hardware, audiovisual equipment.
  • Experience and understanding how to navigate higher education administration, systems, policy and procedure.
  • Evaluate outcomes measures and determine gaps and make recommendations accordingly. Evaluate budgets, financial statements, and impact on the School of Nursing.
  • Ability to create project schedules and timelines. Develop deadlines and address deviances from project plan or problems as they occur. Access systems and collaborate with appropriate departments, vendors, contractors as necessary for the project’s completion. Conduct performance improvement PDSA cycle process changes and plan interventions.
  • Ability to access all University and SON systems and software appropriate for the position. Create correspondence, databases, spreadsheets, presentations, videos, and operate simulation technology and systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare documents in a timely manner. Work with schedules, calendars, and email systems. Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines.
  • Prepare clear, concise, grammatically correct reports, letters, memos, forms, proposals. Ability to speak clearly and make oral presentations in front of small to large groups of people. Explain technical material to lay persons. Train faculty, staff, and students in non-technical language.
  • Work as team member on most tasks of position. Effectively direct the work of other and motivate output. Establish rapport with a variety of clients. Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict.
  • Recommend technology that will enhance the simulation laboratories. Determine which existing equipment/software will best meet the learning objectives of the various courses in conjunction with faculty. Troubleshoot problems with simulation systems. Adjust purchases to meet budget constraints yet meet the needs of the simulation laboratories and learning activities.
  • Prepare and present reports and outcomes measures to the Director, Simulation and IPE ; Director, SON ; faculty; and other stakeholders.
  • Mechanical ability: repair and maintain simulation equipment and systems to maintain optimal functionality of the systems and equipment.
  • Coach, lead, direct, supervise, and evaluate direct reports.
  • Communicate clearly both written and verbally.
  • Access and use University approved purchasing software and systems and make purchases in accordance with budget limitations and University Policies and Procedures.

  • Record of accomplishments in managing healthcare clinical simulation programs.
  • Experience working in a healthcare academic or clinical setting.

Job Description

The lab manager position will oversee the daily operations of the simulation laboratories in the School of Nursing under the direction of the Director, Simulation and IPE . The position will ensure operational readiness of state-of-the-art simulation laboratories in the School of Nursing ( SON ), and assist nursing faculty, staff, and students with use of the equipment and supplies in the labs. The job duties include budgetary maintenance, supply purchases, supervision and evaluation of staff and student workers, plan for simulated learning experiences with faculty, and oversee performance improvement processes for the lab. Additional responsibilities include the routine installation, operation, and maintenance of hardware, software, simulation lab equipment, and audiovisual and interactive television equipment; recommends new services and acquisition of equipment, hardware, software, and supplies; coordinates and maintains computer hardware and software inventory; and develops and maintains policies and procedures.

Job Duties
  • Manages the simulation laboratories’ disposable/supply budget, inventory, and purchases lab supplies, disposable equipment, software, hardware and equipment. To include semesterly/yearly inventory of materials, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Directly supervises the Simulation Laboratories Information Specialist, work study students, graduate assistants, and temporary workers within the simulation laboratories. Makes hiring recommendations and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of simulation laboratories policies, procedures, objectives, and planning.
  • Serves as the primary contact for simulation laboratories faculty, users, and learners, and collaborates with the Director, Simulation and IPE and the Standardized Patient Coordinator to schedule and plan simulated learning experiences within the simulation laboratories. Duties include instruction and orientation with the simulation laboratories users for the operation, care, and use of simulation technology, equipment and AV systems.
  • Oversees the performance improvement process regarding simulation and prepares utilization and outcomes reports for the Director, Simulation and IPE .
  • Acts in the absence of the Director, Simulation and IPE .
  • Ensures the daily maintenance and operations of the simulation laboratories as professional, clean, safe, and optimal learning environments. Duties include providing logistical support for simulation activities and assisting in faculty development.
  • Serves as liaison between the simulation laboratories and the manufacturers of technology, audiovisual, and simulation equipment.
