The Master of Public Administration program in the UGA School of Public and International Affairs is the training ground for public leaders who serve communities from the local level to the global stage. The MPA degree is consistently ranked among the top-10 graduate public affairs programs in the United States. The Associate Director is the principal implementer of strategies to recruit students to the program and support them throughout their educational experience at the University of Georgia and the UGA School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA). The Associate Director is the principal partner of and directly reports to the MPA Director.
The Associate Director takes the lead in developing recruitment events, and connecting with prospective students, applicants, and accepted and yielded students. The Associate Director addresses the questions of applicants and students via text, email, telephone, and in-person. Recruitment of students off-campus through remote (e.g., social media, Zoom) and off-campus in-person events (e.g., graduate student fairs, meetings of relevant associations and agencies; visits to individual campuses) are key responsibilities of the Associate Director as are recruitment activities on campus, e.g., into our program that enables students to earn a Bachelor’s and MPA in five years – an efforts known as the “Double Dawg” program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications (High Priority):
- Master’s degree in public administration, public management, public service, public policy, public leadership, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience with student recruitment.
- Minimum of five years of progressively advanced administrative experience in an academic, government or non-profit setting.
- Be able to work flexible hours including, for example, staffing events in the evening and occasionally on weekends; willingness to travel to meetings in- and out-of-state to participate in recruitment fairs or relevant association meetings or relevant trainings.
- Knowledge of presentation software such as PowerPoint; knowledge of MS Office Suite software.
- Have demonstrated qualities of trust and the highest ethical standards.
- Have outstanding writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications (Lower Priority):
- Experience with social media content development and/or web content.
- Experience with marketing automation tools or customer relations management platforms.
- Experience with procurement platforms in a university setting.
- Knowledge of and experience working with individuals from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds and from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines with high quality work outputs.
This position has the possibility of a non-tenure-track faculty appointment contingent on appropriate academic credentials, past teaching experience, and demonstrated success in the classroom.
