Assistant/Associate Professor in Ichthyology, Fish Ecology

Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the area of Ichthyology and Fish Ecology at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.  The candidate will be expected to teach Ichthyology, Limnology, Fisheries Techniques (primarily field based), and General Biology.  Additional courses may be taught within the candidate’s area of expertise.  Candidates should have a background in Ichthyology (North American fish specifically), Limnology, and Fisheries field techniques.  Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Ichthyology, Fisheries Science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.  This is not an Aquaculture or lab-based position.  ABD applicants may be considered but must demonstrate the ability to have the degree conferred before the anticipated start date.  A one-year temporary masters level instructor may be considered.

 

The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in undergraduate education and teaching experience at the college level is preferred.  Candidates should be able to show potential for engaging in a research program involving undergraduate and graduate students.  The ability to further develop the Fisheries and Zoology programs and improve student recruitment is preferred.  Additional preferred qualifications include experiences or willingness to maintain an existing fish collection and field equipment.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and rank.  The anticipated start date is possibly January 2025.  If not filled, then August 2025.  Review of applications will begin October 15 and continue until the position is filled.  To be considered, candidates must submit a cover letter expressing interest in the position, a current CV, statement of teaching philosophy, description of a ecology-based research program with plan for including undergraduate and graduate students, copies of unofficial transcripts, and contact information for 3 references.  Failure to submit all required materials may result in an application not being considered.

Currently, we also offer one graduate program (Master of Technology-Biology) and are part of the Curriculum & Instruction online Master’s Program under the Science emphasis.
